Summary of Duties
The Community Health Educator, Registered Nurse (RN), is responsible for implementation and delivery of all health education to meet needs identified through Community Needs Assessments and programmatic outcomes assessments. To accomplish the health education mission of HMONO, this position will develop and deliver Health Education content and train staff to ensure all educational curricula is delivered at an acceptable level of competency.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Health Education
- Works collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
- Collaborates with educators/instructors and develops HMONO's Health Education programs and activities, class curricula, content, goals, and measures to meet community needs and objectives.
- Ensures that Health Education content is developed and delivered with cultural sensitivity and appropriateness.
- Schedules and delivers Health Education content.
- Trains and guides staff, students, and/or independent contractors in Health Education content and delivery.
- Reviews content annually and as needed to ensure it is up to date with evidence-based recommendations.
- Works closely with the Health Enhancement Program Manager to ensure accomplishment of programmatic outcomes and contractual agreements.
- Program Assessment and Evaluation
- Work closely with the Data Specialist to develop and implement tools to measure, monitor, assess, and evaluate Health Education programs and activities.
- Develops and oversees data collection processes.
- Assesses and evaluates health outcomes for efficacy and efficiency.
- Assesses and evaluates the quality of services being delivered and client satisfaction.
- Recommends development of new programs and modifications to existing programs to address identified needs.
- Community Relations
- Serves as a representative of HMONO at community events, with government agencies, and with other healthcare professionals.
- Maintains a professional working relationship with local, state, and national contacts.
- Promotes awareness of and interest in HMONO's Health Education programs.
- Strategic Planning
- Participates in the development of HMONO's strategic plan.
- Provides analysis of Health Education data and information to support planning.
- Reports
- Develops clear, informative reports and documents as may be required by the Health Enhancement Program Manager / Programs Director, Executive Director, Board of Directors, or other purposes.
Knowledge and Abilities Required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Demonstrated ability to develop instant rapport with people.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and direct contractors to carry out a broad range of activities.
- Ability to think critically and exercise good judgement in making informed decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with others internally and externally.
- Excellent written and oral ability to communicate with external and internal contacts.
- Proficient use of office equipment such as PC, laptop, tablet, fax machine, scanner, and associated software applications.
- Able to prepare clear, coherent, and accurate activity and data reports.
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft Office systems to include Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
- Ability to work effectively under frequent interruptions and changing requirements, and handle emergencies.
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and professions, local, county, state, and federally oriented; ability to establish and maintain favorable and comfortable professional relationships.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Excellent ability to communicate with external and internal contacts in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner.
- Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Associate's degree in Nursing and more than five years of experience in health education may substitute for Bachelor's degree.
- Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in health education, including but not limited to designing curricula, training, and delivering content
- Certification
- Current State of Hawaii Registered Nurse License (Copy must be submitted upon successful hire)
- Other Requirements
- Current TB Clearance (2-Step)
- HIPAA Compliance Training
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training
- CPR/AED/First-Aid Training
- Current State of Hawaii Driver License and personal reliable vehicle with current insurance and registration
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiar with HMONO's mission, programs, and services.
- Possess a working knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture, traditions, history, and current events.
