Job Description

Momentum is hiring a Community Engagement Coordinator to assist in representing and promoting the Momentum brand and fostering community engagement and connection. As the Community Engagement Coordinator, you will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and maintaining strategic relationships with participant families, corporate partners, volunteers, schools, and other aligned community service organizations.

The Community Engagement Coordinator will support Momentum programs including Innovation Hub and Momentum Strong, in Thousand Oaks; and Early Head Start, Early Intervention, and pediatric programs in Torrance.

Community Engagement Coordinator Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborates directly with program teams to identify strategic engagement opportunities across program sites. Define volunteer roles, schedules, protocols, and training to align with Momentum’s community engagement, volunteer, and membership goals.
  • Drives strategic initiatives focused on corporate and civic engagement, volunteer recruitment, individual and family memberships, donor retention, and succession planning—all through a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens.
  • Develops and executes engagement strategies targeting stakeholders such as companies, healthcare professionals, educators, trade professionals, and the general public—partnering with internal teams to expand Momentum’s support network.
  • Tracks progress and ensure accountability for all engagement activities, including volunteer recruitment and retention, community outreach, advocacy, and awareness efforts, using measurable outcomes.
  • Fosters a collaborative and energizing environment that inspires volunteers and community partners to actively support Momentum’s mission and initiatives.
  • Represents and promotes Momentum across the Tri-Counties area, building and sustaining strong relationships with local community stakeholders.
  • Designs and leads high-impact, relationship-based stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Manages corporate sponsorship engagement and stewardship programs. Develop and implement complex engagement plans that align with corporate social responsibility goals and foster long-term partnerships.

Community Engagement Coordinator Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, highly preferred; or equivalent work experience with a proven track record of success, required
  • Minimum of two (2) years or more of directly related experience for volunteer recruitment and management, required 
  • Knowledge of Raisers Edge and NXT a plus
  • Knowledge and proficiency at an intermediate or higher level of Microsoft Office applications a plus
  • Familiarity with non-profit setting; knowledge or a willingness to learn of issues and dynamics related to stewardship and development of donors, foundations, and corporations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a positive, solutions-oriented demeanor, and the ability to build and sustain strong relationships with staff, corporate representatives, civic leaders, volunteers, and other non-profit partners both face-to-face and remotely 
  • Availability for some travel to our locations in Southern California, evening and weekend work for events and family group activities

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older 
  • Valid and current proof of legal right to drive in California; required 
  • Read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English well enough to perform essential duties and responsibilities
  • Successfully pass all post offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, health screening, TB screening and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds
